Grape Juice May Prevent Breast Cancer

Drinking a glass of 100 percent Concord grape juice may help protect women from breast cancer, according to a study published in the August edition of the Journal of Medicinal Foods. Researchers found that natural compounds in Concord grape juice were able to prevent damage to healthy human breast cells after they were introduced to a harmful environmental carcinogen, benzo (a) pyrene, which leads to breast cancer. The compounds in the juice block the connection of benzo (a) pyrene to the DNA of the healthy breast cells. The grape juice, rich in anthocyanins, potent natural antioxidants, was found to suppress oxidative stress and to slow the progression of breast cancer.
